The clips included in the clip above really deserve to be enshrined in the Awkwardness Hall of Fame.
I’m someone who grew up watching the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon year in and year out. I was tuned in when David Letterman interviewed Crispin Glover and Farrah Fawcett and Joaquin Phoenix. I saw President Nixon resign and President Bill Clinton challenge a grand jury on what the meaning of ‘is’ is.

Beck booked Massa based on Massa’s insinuations that his fellow Democrats — including a stark naked Rahm Emanuel — had intimidated him right out of office over his opposition to the Democrats’ health care bills. Beck devoted his entire show tonight to Massa, hoping to blow the lid off of an insidious and evil conspiracy.
That’s not what happened.
Instead, Eric Massa delivered stories of tickle fights, and a yearbook with photos of Navy men involved in something he compared to “an orgy in Caligula.” He even offered an apology to Rahm Emanuel — then claimed he was being sarcastic.
Watching Glenn Beck fail over and over again in his desperate search for corruption and dirt, you see mental anguish that’s nearly absolute. At one point, he remarks that the interview is “making blood shoot out of my eyes. ” Eventually, he admits that the hour is a complete waste of everyone’s time.
Not only is it one of the finest moments ever in TV awkwardness — it is also fascinating for the way that Massa’s crazy talk disarms Beck’s trademark crazy act and forces Beck out of character. I have always felt that Glenn Beck is every bit as sincere as Stephen Colbert, and nearly half as funny.
For a moment here, he almost seems rational and deserving of sympathy.
