Video: My head shaved after 2nd chemo
I wasn’t sure what I was going to do when my hair started coming out. I thought that maybe Mark and I could tackle it on our own with a pair of clippers borrowed from my sister Marianne. Then last week I received a phone call from my sister Kim who works as a nail technician at a salon. She told me that her boss wanted to offer me a complementary head shaving. I told her we might just do it on our own. After further thought, Mark said it may be best to leave it in the hands of a professional, seeing that neither of us has ever used a set of clippers before and that he wouldn’t want to take a chance nicking my scalp. I thought that was a good idea and made an appointment to have my head shaved by Joni Haarbauer, owner of The Hair Co. in Kenosha.
I made the appointment for three days after my second treatment. which was given this past Monday. We wanted to make sure I had enough time to deal with whatever side effects I might have. This worked out perfectly because my hair started coming out a little on Sunday, and by Thursday it was very frustrating trying to deal with it.
I didn’t have much trepidation with any of this. I might have been a slight bit nervous when we left the house, but that could also have been the effect of the steroids that I took earlier in the day. Now, a day later, without my hair, I feel very liberated, and it’s less of a hassle dealing with the mess.
I just received a package in the mail today from my friend Sheri, who is a fellow breast cancer patient. She sent me a whole bunch of beautiful scarves that she used to use and wanted to pass along to me. I look forward to wearing them with all sorts of outfits. There are so many different colors and styles to choose from.

Yeah I might have to have Mark help me with my stubble.
I love you guys!
that happened to my sister – when her hair started falling out from her cancer treatments she received a box in the mail from one of her friends and it was full of scarves and hats and some books – with it there was a note in the box that in essence said when you no longer needs these please pass them along to someone who does – bless you, Amy
Sue – It’s sad to think of the next woman who will be wearing these scarves. I can only feel the healing being passed along.
Thank you for your blessings.

Amy, Kevin and I just watched your video. YOU LOOK GREAT!! Holy crap Amy! I know you always dress nice and look like a million bucks but you really look beautiful!!! You and I talked on the phone on my way home from work and you told me about all this, but seeing it adds a new dimension. Kevin and I warmed up dinner and I couldn’t wait to see the new you..so thanks for sharing your life. Kevin said these exact words as he watched the video “She’s way cuter than Sinead O’Connor” (we both thought Sinead was adorable when she shaved her head years ago). You have pretty ears Amy!! You have to share this with little Zoey. Ok I just had to tell you how beautiful you look and the scarf your friend sent is perfect!
Oh you both are so sweet. I know I was thinking about Zoey this morning when I looked at my self in the mirror.
I should have been wearing the T-shirt she saw me in last so she knows who I am. :)
I too only know you through Steve and Janet. Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.

Amy you continue to amaze me with your positive attitude and smile no matter what. Your beauty shines through w or w/o hair! What a journey you’re on. I also was thinking of the next woman you’ll pass the scarves to. I think the bright colors say a lot about how you survivors feel about your journey. Prayers and blessings.

HUGS and KISSES back to you always :) I was just doing my homework. We always do math for homework :) Sometimes we do spelling and sometimes we do science. Today we did math :) How is Uncle Mark? :) My mom called me to watch a show called Survivor. She was watching becase Aunt Maria was watching. I LOVE YOU :)
Katie I bet you are good at math. Is math the test that your mom told me about you getting all but one answer correct on?
Uncle Mark is good. He is busy working all the time and playing guitar. :)
We don’t watch Survivor, I know aunt Maria watches it every season.
Love,
Aunt Amy
We need to send you some green and black caps so you can go in and look all GI Jane and get military discounts and have some people ask you where you fought in the wars, glad your energy is up Karen tells me your running! Keep it up, all 26 mile races start with 3 mile training runs!
Peter
Thanks for the words of encouragement Peter. No running today, just up for brisk walking.
I went out today for the first time with just a cap. Not too many people stared. I guess GI Jane is kind of how I felt. :)
Goodness! Amy you are gorgeous! Beautiful inside and out. Thanks for sharing this journey!
Angela thanks for caring and following along with me. :)
