Katy Perry’s latest album, Teenage Dream, is one of the MP3 downloads in
100 albums for $5 each for February at Amazon.com. (Above: Katy Perry performs the title track from Teenage Dream during her Saturday Night Live appearance last September.)

Teenage Dream not only topped the Billboard album chart last fall, it was also favorably reviewed. Veteran rock critic Ken Tucker, of NPR’s Fresh Air, found that that “many of her songs sound awfully good: lush, lustily sung, creamy canvasses against which her image and her voice can pose.”

Katy Perry tour dates: Milwaukee & Chicago

Katy Perry’s “California Dreams” tour is scheduled to hit Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 7, and Rosemont’s Allstate Arena on July 8. At last check, tickets were almost gone for both shows.

Arcade Fire, ‘The Suburbs’ and Eminem’s ‘Recovery’

Other fairly recent $5 MP3 downloads this month include The Suburbs by Arcade Fire and Eminem’s Recovery, as well as the score for True Grit by Carter Burwell and Live, Volume 3 from The Avett Brothers.

Carole King, Gillian Welch, Sarah McLachlan, Sade

Among the older albums in Amazon’s February list are some key releases by female artists: Sade’s Lovers Rock, her comeback from 2000, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, Sarah McLachlan‘s breakthrough album from 1994, the timeless Revival by Gillian Welch, one of my personal favorite from 2001, and Carole King’s Tapestry, which has sold over 25 million copies worldwide since its release in 1971.
