Paris, France — Leonardo da Vinci‘s masterpiece, the Mona Lisa, is displayed at the Louvre Museum (Musée du Louvre).

The oil painting, done on a poplar wood panel, is 30 inches high by 20 7/8 inches wide (77 centimeters by 53 centimeters). Leonardo da Vinci is believed to have painted it partially in Italy from 1503 to 1506 before halting. He took the painting with him to France in 1516 and worked on it there until finally finishing it shortly before his death in 1519.
