Original Culver’s restaurant location: Sauk City, Wisconsin

Since we were near Sauk City, Wisconsin the Saturday before last, I thought it might be fun to look for the original Culver’s Frozen Custard & ButterBurgers Restaurant opened by George Culver and his family in 1984.

It wasn’t difficult to find the site (it’s at 716 Phillips Blvd.), but the former A&W restaurant has been replaced by a newer building which looks just like the more than 390 other Culver’s restaurants in 17 states.

This particular Culver’s, however, has a special stone monument at the north end of the outdoor dining area. It reads:

The George Culver family opened the original Culver’s Frozen Custard Restaurant on this site July 18, 1984.

The current restaurant opened April 27, 2000.

This monument is a tribute to the Sauk-Prairie area residents who have assisted with Culver’s growth across the United States.

You can learn more about Culver’s at Wikipedia.

Go ahead and call me a restaurant chain or roadside marker nerd if you wish — but just know that another guy was waiting for me to finish so he could take his own photos.
