Humpback whale breaching off Maui

Off Lahaina, Hawaii — A humpback whale breaches during our Pacific Whale Foundation Whalewatch Eco-tour. The brim of Amy’s hat is in the bottom-right corner, and the pink hat is worn by our friend Ali Gerakaris. The island of Lanai is in the background.

Just before this, a couple of passengers had been complaining that the only “whales” you ever see on these whale-watching tours are distant specks that could just as well be logs. This shut them up.
