Another Week: Number 30

by | July 23, 2023

Even though this one one of Amy’s weeks out of the hospital, we spent three of the seven days there nonetheless.

Monday was an effort to remedy her headaches and vomiting, after seven attacks on Sunday. Thursday we met a new doctor who has been consulting on her case for a while and got some new clarity on her condition. Friday, some scans revealed pulmonary embolisms on both sides, and we went home with new medicine.

Our TV watching time was mostly spent on the Tour de France. On Friday, we also caught the U.S. Women’s National Team in their opening match against Vietnam in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Morimoto’s Sushi Master

There have been some favorable reviews of this cooking competition show on The Roku Channel, so we checked it out.

Morimoto’s Sushi Master is not revolutionary. It follows the well-established pattern of subjecting a group of cooks to a couple of cooking challenges, followed by judging and elimination. The accent in this show, of course, is on sushi and Japanese cooking in general.

Chef Masaharu Morimoto, famous as an Iron Chef both on the original Japanese show and on Iron Chef America, has enjoyed a long career as a chef and restauranteur in Japan and the United States. On this show, he’s a humorous observer and a terse judge.

The show is well-produced, well-paced, and visually appealing. I guess the amazement is that it’s an original Roku Channel production — Free, Ad-Supported Television (FAST).
