Amy’s job puts her in regular contact with a number of software developer-type people who regularly wade in certain offbeat, cultish humor channels. She tells me that, among these plugged-in folks, there is a strong, giggly anticipation about a movie called Black Dynamite.
According to Wikipedia, “Black Dynamite is an upcoming spoof of blaxploitation films of the 60’s and 70’s.” Its Internet Movie Database entry lists a release date of only “2009,” nothing more specific so far, but a Variety update from Thursday notes that the film — directed by Scott Sanders and written by Michael Jai White, who also stars — will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah in the second half of January.

… watching Grindhouse, which is an absolutely fantastic ride, there is this little irritating voice in the back of the mind which can’t help but notice that for all the added on scratches, sound pops, and jump cuts to recreate a bygone era of moviemaking, both films still look incredibly modern. Now, prepare yourself for Scott Sanders who has thrown down the gauntlet with Black Dynamite!
