Black Rock torch lighting: Sheraton Maui Resort

Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii — The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa’s daily cliff dive ceremony on Kaanapali Beach at sunset is performed by a cliff diver who first lights a trail of torches out to the lava formation known as Black Rock (Pu’u Keka’a), the site where ancient Hawaiians believed that the spirits of Maui’s departed “jumped off,” or left this world:  
Upon reaching the summit, he offers his torch to the ocean below, casts his flower lei into the sea; and finally takes the breathtaking dive from Black Rock into the rolling surf below.
