Historical marker: First cabin in Kenosha County

A bronze plaque set in stone and caged for protection along a trail in Petrifying Springs Park, Kenosha, Wisconsin.

It reads:

HISTORICAL LANDMARK

Site of log cabin built in March 1835 by Jacob Montgomery, a trapper, and his two sons.

First Settlement in Town of Somers, then called Pike, and also First Settlement in Kenosha County.

In 2013, students from UW-Parkside conducted an archeological dig near here and recovered a variety of artifacts.
