Civil Rights Museum protester Jacqueline Smith’s display
Memphis, Tennessee: National Civil Rights Museum protester Jacqueline Smith, the last resident of the Lorraine Motel, has kept a protest vigil across the street since January 12, 1988.
The sign leaning against the wall reads:
What Jacqueline Smith believes is that the Lorraine Motel should be put to better use such as housing, job training, free college, clinic or other service for the poor. She also believes that the area surrounding the Lorraine should be rejuvenated and made decent and kept affordable, and not gentrified with expensive condominiums that price the people out of their community.
